Dennison Exterior Solutions and Gutter Topper as siding contractors in Coloma Michigan and an authorized installer for Lowe’s Home Improvement stores we were tasked with investigating the siding installation by a previous siding company and taking corrective action to resolve any issues we would find based on a list of concerns from the homeowners son who had observed the completed result after visiting with his father.
At our meeting with the owners son we walked around the entire exterior of the home and discussed and noted the various problems with the previous installation while discussing what options and actions we could take to remedy the failed installation by a previous vinyl siding contractor.
The first and most obvious problem was that the wood trim around all the doors and windows on this small home that sits on the banks of Lake Michigan was much wider than what you would find on most home. The trim was consistently around 4 to 6 inches wide if not wider in some areas. The previous installer had simply tried to custom wrap all the trim in white aluminum coil however, when you do so the expansion and contraction of that much aluminum will oil-can or warp during warm periods of the day and then because they also used too much white window and door caulk to hide seams the sealant pulled away from the aluminum. The previous installer used so much caulk they even caulked shut the beautiful casement windows that looked out onto Lake Michigan.
After discussing this major problem the homeowners son settled on my suggestion to remove all the vinyl siding panels that inspected with around all doors and windows and removing the wood trim. This allowed us to then install a vinyl 2 ½ inch white window and door casing and install new vinyl siding panels as the former panels were now too short. This process eliminated the need to install any aluminum coil and also eliminated the need for any caulk around the openings as well giving us a nice clean look.
Another issue was in several areas the aluminum fascia panels were improperly cut and fastened to the soffit panels allowing some of the soffit panels to become loose. We simply installed a few new panels and resecured the loose soffit.
And finally, as seamless gutter contractors in Coloma Michigan all the downspouts that the previous contractor installed that ran down the walls and were anchored to the siding with downspout pipe-bands were installed improperly to the exposed face of the siding panels. We removed and reused the downspout tubes, replaced the vinyl siding panels that had been damaged from improper fastening and proper fastened the downspout tubes to the walls.
Our expertise as vinyl siding contractors allowed us to identify the problems, provide the customer with several options in remedying the situation and to restore the beauty of their home.
