A Coloma homeowner recently trusted Dennison Roofing & Gutter Toppers with a complete roof replacement, attic energy upgrade, and gutter protection. Here’s what we did.

A CertainTeed Integrity Roofing System

We installed a CertainTeed Integrity Roofing System with NorthGate Burnt Sienna shingles across 23 squares. Burnt Sienna’s warm tones give the home a rich, inviting look. NorthGate shingles are built for tough Michigan winters.

Full Redeck with New OSB

After tear-off, we replaced the entire roof deck with new OSB. That gives the new roof a solid, flat base.

Protection Where It Matters Most

We installed 5½ ft of CertainTeed WinterGuard ice and water protection at the eaves and around the penetrations, where ice dams and leaks most often start. The balance of the roof is covered with RoofRunner synthetic underlayment.

Chimney Saddle and Skylight

We built a new chimney saddle with new flashing to steer water around the chimney instead of letting it pool behind it. We kept the homeowner’s round skylight and re-flashed it for a watertight seal.

Ridge Vent Ventilation

We installed ridge vent along the peak and capped the 7 old static vents with roof plugs. That removes the extra openings and lets the ridge vent exhaust hot, humid air from the attic.

Heat Deflector Insulation: Year-Round Energy Savings

We also installed 2 rolls of Heat Deflector Insulation. Each roll covers 700 sq ft and is 4 ft wide. We lay it over the existing attic insulation like a blanket and overlap the rows by about 1 inch.

Heat Deflector Insulation uses NASA space technology to deflect heat based on where the heat comes from:

Spring, summer, and early fall: The roof deck radiates heat that makes an attic very hot. Heat Deflector sends 97% of that heat back up so the ridge vent can exhaust the hot, humid air. Only 3% gets through, so the air conditioner and refrigerator don’t have to work as hard to keep the home comfortable.
Winter: Furnace heat rises through the ceiling and existing insulation, and Heat Deflector reflects it back down into the living areas, where you want it.

Department of Energy studies show this can reduce utility bills by 25–45%, depending on the home.

200 ft of Royal Brown Solution Gutter Protection

To finish, we installed 200 ft of Royal Brown Solution gutter protection over the existing gutters. Solution is made from .019 aluminum and comes in 6 colors. Gutter Topper, Solution, Needle Guard, and Leaf Terminator are the only gutter protection products to pass 2 independent tests: no clogging, torrential rain, 110 mph winds, and 1,200 lbs per sq ft of ice and snow load.

Gutter Tune-Up

Before installing the Solution, we cleaned out the gutters and downspouts and repitched them where needed. We replaced the damaged downspout kickers and removed 2 large splash guards.
