Waterproof Underlayment – WinterGuard
All of Dennison Exterior Solutions & Gutter Topper roof installations required proper ventilation in order to validate the new roofs lifetime warranty (50 Years) to extend the life of a typical 30 year warranty to 50 years. Our installation methods also provide our roofs with a 130 mph wind warranty (may reduce insurance costs). In addition, most of our customers are now choosing to have us install CertainTeed’s NorthGate SBS Modified asphalt shingle. The rubberizing aspects of the SBS not only allows for greater flexibility so the shingles resist cracking even in extreme cold-weather but also includes a Class 4 impact resistance (may reduce insurance costs), the highest rating available which many consider the NorthGate the most durable shingle on the market today. With the installation of WinterGuard Ice & Water Shield over the entire roof deck your roof will be Leak Proof as well. An additional option our customers do enjoy is that we also can install the Heat Deflector Insulation during the roofing process which also reduces heating and cooling bills. The combination of our Lifetime Warranty Roof, Installing Proper Ventilation, the Heat Deflector Insulation and covering the entire roof deck with WinterGuard Ice & Water Shield not only saves our customers energy and money, stops all roof leaks but also eliminates one additional roof replacement in their lifetimes.

Dennison Exterior Solutions & Gutter Topper – WinterGuard by CertainTeed
WinterGuard® waterproofing shingle underlayment is the solution for winning the battle against water penetration in your roof’s most vulnerable places. WinterGuard is a composite material of asphalt polymers, formed into a rolled sheet. The asphalt makes it vapor-tight, and the polymers make the asphalt elastic and sticky. This protective barrier is able to stretch and seal around nails driven through it.
WinterGuard is one of the key components in the CertainTeed Integrity Roof System® which is comprised of underlayments, shingles, accessory products and ventilation all working together. The Integrity Roof System is designed to provide optimum performance–no matter the weather conditions.
WinterGuard Ice and water shield contains asphalt cement, a special stretchable membrane, and a co-polymer called styrene butadene styrene (SBS). The SBS component makes the product very sticky. Because the product has a very sticky backing, it not only adheres well to the wood roofing sheathing, but it also sticks well to the layer below when you overlap the pieces. When shingles are installed over the top of the WinterGuard and roofing nails penetrate the ice and water shield on the roof, the rubberized nature of the material creates a gasket effect on the shaft of the nail. Leaks simply don’t happen and your home and everything below it is protected 24/7.
