Ice and Water Shield and Felt Shingle Underlayments

Roofers' Select™ high-performance underlayment:

Contains 50 - 80% more asphalt, making it heavier and highly water resistant
Is twice as strong in tear strength tests
Is over 60% less likely to wrinkle, based on expansion tests

WinterGuard™ - your best defense against winter leaks:

WinterGuard is a composite material of asphalt polymners, formed into a rolled sheet. The asphalt provides the waterproofing. The polymers make the asphalt elastic and sticky, all the through the sheet. The result is an amazing ability to both stretch and cling. This means that WinterGuard doesn't rip when stressed and seals around nails driven through it. It sticks to a clean roof deck like glue. And it, won't dry out during the warranted lifetime of an asphalt shingle system. The result is a waterproof barrier beneath your shingle system, which pooled water and driven rain cannot penetrate.

Ice Dams - nasty build-ups of ice and snow form from freeze melt cycling on your home's roof deck. When the ice and snow melt, trapped water can seep through the roof, damaging the roof deck, insulation and the interior of your home.

WinterGuard™ - waterproofing shingle underlayment is installed between the roof deck and the shingles, creating a weather-tight barrier that prevents backed-up water from getting into your home.

The current Uniform Building Code requires that ice and water shield be *installed 24" up the roof from the exterior wall.

Roofers Select™ - Contractors across the country told us what they wanted in a high quality underlayment. We utilized new technology to create an underlayment with high performance features that exceed typical No.15 organic felt by adding a small percentage of fiberglass.
  • Lays flat and is extremely resistant to wrinkling.
  • Reduces the likelihood of slipping for increased safety.
  • Meets underlayment requirements for the CertainTeed Integrity Roof System™.

*Example: Measuring from the outside edge of the fascia board to the exterior wall of your home (the over-hang) measures 18", then add to that measurement the thickness of the exterior wall which in most cases will be at least 6" would equal 24". Then ice and water shield must be installed up the roof a distance of 46".
